Conservatory Roof Replacement in Northamptonshire

The frames are cut to the measurements of your conservatory rather than assembled from a standard kit, which is why we can work with shapes that off-the-shelf systems will not take.

Almost every conservatory we re-roof was built between the late 1990s and the mid 2000s, with polycarbonate or glass sitting on a white uPVC frame. Those roofs were never designed to hold heat. The room is cold from November, unusable in a July heatwave, and heavy rain on the panels is loud enough to be heard through the rest of the house. Most people stop using the space and it turns into a corridor to the garden.

How Our Conservatory Roofs Are Built

We frame our roofs in timber rather than aluminium. Aluminium conducts heat readily, so an aluminium-framed roof loses warmth through the frame itself no matter how much insulation sits between the sections. Timber conducts far less, and it gives us the structural depth to pack in more insulation.

The finished roof reaches a U-value of 0.15, which is better than the roof over the rest of your house. Above the insulation we leave a ventilated void so moisture cannot build up inside the structure, which is the failure that shortens the life of cheaper conversions.

Every roof is tested, certified and signed off by Stroma Building Control, and the work carries an insurance-backed guarantee of up to ten years. Materials carry a manufacturer’s warranty of up to 40 years.

Tiled Conservatory Roof Conversions

A conversion strips the existing glazing and framework and replaces it with a solid tiled roof, keeping your conservatory base, walls and doors. We build to Edwardian, Gable, Lean To, P-shape and Victorian conservatory shapes.At survey we check the base and the wall plate before anything else, because a tiled roof weighs considerably more than polycarbonate and the existing structure has to carry it. If yours will not, you will hear that at the survey rather than partway through the job. Most installations are finished within a week.

Insulated Conservatory Ceilings

Not every conservatory needs a new roof. Where the frame and glazing are still sound, an insulated conservatory ceiling fits inside the roof you already have. It costs considerably less than a full conversion, needs no structural work, and most go in within a day.We finish these in plastered board or uPVC panelling. Both sit flush and leave the room looking like part of the house rather than a conservatory. If insulation alone will not be enough for your roof, we will tell you rather than take the easier sale.

Windows & Doors

Replacing a conservatory roof is often the point at which the frames and glazing start to look tired next to it. We fit WarmCore aluminium bi-folds, composite and residential doors, French doors and sliding patio doors, all rated A+ for efficiency. Windows come in casement, flush, tilt and turn and French styles, with triple glazing where you want it.WarmCore uses a thermally broken timber-effect core inside an aluminium frame, so you get slim sightlines without the cold bridging you get from standard aluminium. If your existing frames are still sound we will say so rather than sell you a full set.

We build the roof ourselves

Every roof we fit is designed and built in our own workshop at Overstone Grange Farm in Moulton. Nothing is bought in as a kit and cut to fit on the day. Each frame is made to the measurements of your conservatory, which matters most on the shapes that rarely come out square, such as Victorian and P-shape roofs on a conservatory that has settled over twenty years.

We build in timber rather than aluminium. Timber conducts far less heat than metal does, so the frame itself is not quietly undoing the work of the insulation sitting between it. Above that insulation we leave a ventilated void, which lets moisture out instead of letting it sit in the structure.

Your money is protected before we start

Our guarantees are underwritten by the Consumer Protection Association, who also protect your deposit. If we were unable to complete the work, your deposit does not disappear with us. The insurance backed guarantee runs for up to 10 years and the materials carry a manufacturer’s warranty of up to 40 years.

We are registered under TrustMark, the government endorsed standards scheme for trades working in and around the home, which means our work and our trading practices are checked by someone other than us. Every roof is inspected and signed off by Stroma Building Control, so the conversion is certified and you have the paperwork for it when you come to sell.

How much does a replacement conservatory roof cost?

It depends on the size and shape of the conservatory and on whether you want a full tiled roof or an insulated ceiling, which is the cheaper option. We give a fixed written price after survey rather than an estimate over the phone.

Do I need building regulations approval?

Yes, for a full tiled roof. We handle the application and the job is signed off by Stroma Building Control, with an insurance-backed guarantee of up to ten years on completion.

How long does the work take?

Most installations are completed within a week. We strip and remove the old roof, then build the new structure onto your existing frame.

Can any conservatory take a tiled roof?

Most can, but the base and wall plate have to carry the extra weight, and our surveyor checks both before quoting. Where the structure will not take it, an insulated ceiling gives you most of the comfort benefit without the load.
